Ready to Buy, but Unsure Where to Start?

People often as us a question like this, “I’m a single guy in my 30s who’s ready to buy—what should I look for?” As someone who always looks at real estate from a long-term perspective, I absolutely love this question! Here are three things that I would recommend to this gentleman (and anyone else in a similar position, for that matter):

1. Focus on location. You’ll want to look at vibrant, growing areas that allow you to get to work and back as quickly as possible. 

2. Buy at the bottom or mid-range of your budget. If you’re living the single life, live it to the fullest! Leave money for traveling, going out with friends, and lovely date nights so you can woo someone special (if and when you’re want to take that next step). 

3. Buy a great investment to fund your future. In five to 10 years from now, when you’re ready to start a new chapter in your life, you should be able to sell your house and upgrade to a more spacious one. During your first foray into homeownership, you will have been able to write off your mortgage interest, potentially rent out a room to friends or family, live close to work and save on gas, and grow wealth through real estate.
